• Charrettes

We plan, implement and direct all forms of public consultation in the urban development field. We have a special expertise in design charrettes and dynamic planning.

Bob Ransford, Senior Consultant at COUNTERPOINT, has a Certificate in Urban Design from Simon Fraser University and he completed the Charrette Planner’s Program at Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design. He has an in-depth knowledge of dynamic planning, implementing its various elements in a wide range of urban development projects.

Ransford brings all elements of dynamic planning together in the sophisticated process of a charrette. All participants in a charrette:

  • Work collaboratively.
  • Design cross-functionally – “talking with a pencil”.
  • Compress their work sessions.
  • Communicate in short feedback loops.
  • Look at the big picture and the little details at the same time.
  • Measure projected outcomes.
  • Produce a plan that is feasible.

A charrette is a holistic, collaborative, transformative planning process that fosters an environment of trust, reduces re-work and facilitates implementation to create a designed-based win/win solution for the most controversial and complicated urban design and planning problems.
