We’re impressed with the commitment many communities make to real economic development planning. We’re equally impressed with the kind of planning business entrepreneurs commit to – to make their business dream a reality. But sometimes outside business advice is needed to bring another perspective in – to test your concepts, play devil’s advocate and run the numbers. That’s where we come in.
- Economic Assessment – Is your idea really worth pursuing? Or are you going to blow half your budget just trying to find out? Are you basing your business hopes on a dream, or a reality? By spending a little bit of money up front to test your ideas and concepts, you may be saving yourself big bucks downline.
- Market Research – Okay, the business assessment is in and your idea(s) look workable, but what about the market for your idea, service or product? Will there be a demand for it? Is there a target market in place already that you can tap into? Don’t build the castle if you won’t get the visitors. Do your market research first.
- Financing – So you think you can get a new business or two moving based on your research. Do you have the required capital to develop your idea and start producing a product or offering a service that generates income? What’s the financial risk? Are you looking at all financing options? If so, at what cost to you? What will your projected ROI be? And if you have to ask what ROI is, get some business planning help. Don’t try to be a financial expert if you’re not – you’ll lose.
- Business Planning – Financing is critical. So is knowing the trends and dynamics of attracting business and a market for your business. Maybe there are joint venture partners out there who can make your life easier if you give up a percentage of your project. With community economic development, the potential for public/private partnerships is growing.
