While British Columbia might be a long way from Ottawa, the Federal Government touches our lives each day. The distance between B.C. and Ottawa frequently causes people in B.C. to disengage from dealing with the Federal Government. And there’s sometime a sense that Ottawa isn’t always engaged in what’s best for B.C.

Never the less, the Federal Government has a significant presence in B.C. – from the Federal Ministers who have an office in Vancouver, to the Members of Parliament who represent their ridings in all manner of issues – to the civil servants who apply the Federal rules and regulations to all sectors.

Then there are the various Standing Committees studying issues and reviewing proposed legislations and policy initiatives being developed in Ottawa that we sometimes don’t hear about until it’s too late.

• Working Together – Just as the “us vs. them” approach to government won’t work in Victoria, it won’t do much for you in Ottawa either. There are new dynamics emerging with the political parties. And as the new Conservative government evolves with its policies and relations. there will continue to be changes to the federal political landscape, and even changes in political direction.
