I was in Grade 4 when John F. Kennedy was shot and killed. I remember my teacher, Mrs. Jackson, leaving the classroom with the principal, Mr. Morton and returning, red-eyed and sniffling, some 15 minutes later. It seemed to me, at the time, that Canadians were mourning an American president as much as Americans were and, in hindsight it seemed a bit odd.
